Wolfgang Reisinger, D.M.A., Ph.D.
ORGANIST AND DIRECTOR OF MUSIC
Wolfgang Reisinger studied church music and organ performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna from 1983 to 1993. Between 1987 and 1990, he served as organist and choir director at the Baroque Abbey of St. Florian, approximately 100 miles west of Vienna, where he performed on Anton Bruckner’s historic organ. In 1987, he began his international career as interim cathedral organist at the Lutheran Cathedral of Strängnäs, Sweden. Since 1979, he has served as organist at St. Brigitta in Vienna.
From 2001 to 2003, Reisinger served as Director of Music at the Catholic Campus Center at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where he earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ performance in 2003. In 2008, he completed a second doctorate in musicology at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
ORGANIST
Since 1986, Wolfgang Reisinger has performed extensively throughout Europe, including appearances in Scandinavia, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Poland, Spain, Portugal, and France, as well as in Russia, China, South Korea, and the United States. His concert programs frequently include organ improvisation.
Reisinger is committed to promoting the organ both as a concert instrument and as an essential instrument of the liturgy, particularly in countries where the organ tradition is less firmly established. He has given numerous masterclasses on the music of J. S. Bach, French and German Romantic organ repertoire, the works of Maurice Duruflé, improvisation, and liturgical organ playing.
He has recorded several CDs as both organist and choir director and has served as a juror for the 13th International Mikael Tariverdiev Organ Competition in Kaliningrad.
COMPOSER
Wolfgang Reisinger has composed numerous works for the liturgy, primarily vocal music, including psalm settings, motets, hymn arrangements, sacred jazz cantatas based on biblical themes, and mass settings such as the German Mass and Missa Romantica. His compositions also include works for organ and piano. In addition, he has served as chief editor for music publications issued by Doblinger in Vienna.
TEACHER
Wolfgang Reisinger began his teaching career in Upper Austria and was appointed professor at the Conservatory of Sacred Music in Vienna in 1990. There he taught organ, improvisation, harmony, organ design and construction, liturgical organ playing, and the history of sacred music.
He also served twice as a guest professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and taught hymnology and figured bass at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. Reisinger has frequently presented guest lectures at universities in the United States and continues to direct international church music conferences, including REJOICE: Austrian Week of New Sacred Music.
In 2025, he was appointed Visiting Professor of Organ and Church Music at the University of Kansas.
ORGAN CONSULTANT
During his tenure as Director of Sacred Music for the Archdiocese of Vienna, Wolfgang Reisinger supervised organ and church bell projects throughout the archdiocese. He worked closely with organ builders and assisted numerous parishes with organ renovations and new organ construction.
Through participation in international conferences on organ building and church bells across Europe, Reisinger further expanded his professional expertise. He continues to maintain close relationships with colleagues in Europe and the United States, enriching and broadening his musical perspective.
